About The Founders

Visitors to this site might want to know something about the Dick Carmacks of Aztec, NM, the folks who want to see the world covered with God’s Word printed on stone.
I (Dick), and wife Verna have been married since 1958. She was saved at the age of 10 in a church basement as the preacher spoke on hell and the building furnace on a cold winter evening burned hot. Verna suddenly understood she was in danger and then and there accepted the LORD into her life.
I however, at the age of 51, was a committed evolutionist and thought all the questions about life, its origin and its destination had already been settled by Mr. Darwin. I wanted nothing to do with the church and thought most of its people were “simple-minded bigots.” (The Underlying Truth: I hated God and wanted nothing to do with Him because I loved my sin and didn’t want to give it up.)
Through gentle pressure however, by my wife and daughters I reluctantly agreed to let them attend a local Baptist congregation. First it was Sunday morning, then Sunday night and the rebellion continued to build inside. After much persuasion I finally agreed to allow even Wednesday night attendance but when Thursday night “visitation” was requested, I blew my top.
I stormed into the Preacher’s office one Friday afternoon and proceeded to voice all of my objections in a not-so-nice manner. I accused the preacher of exploiting my kids and vowed to never allow them to attend the church again. The preacher listened politely and finally observed, “Mr. Carmack, you have a problem.”
“What kind of a problem?”
The preacher replied, “You have a problem with God, you need to be saved.” And then he asked a critical question: “Would you like to be saved?” At that instant a Bible verse popped into my mind: (I didn’t even know that I knew a Bible verse.)
Mt 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
All of a sudden, all of the rebellion for all of the years came to rest fully upon me. I knew that verse was talking about me because of the way I had resisted my daughters' desires to attend church. I also understood that if I didn’t submit and submit right now, to the call of God, this was probably the last chance I would have.
Things changed rapidly after that. The Bible became required reading and many hours were spent thinking on God. In a few years God allowed me to became a Creationist speaker, and then in 1993 Verna and I founded the Storehouse Baptist Church at Durango, Colorado. The Storehouse ministry was simple, outdated food was collected from local supermarkets and then given to whoever attended the church services at Storehouse. God was good. Many people made professions of faith in Jesus Christ.
In late 2004, almost 12 years after the Storehouse was founded My wife and I semi-retired to Aztec, NM where we founded Little Brown Church, at Aztec. This writing finds us two years later engaged in a project to print God’s Word on stone tile and give them free of charge to any business or professional office that will agree to display them publicly. This website is an outgrowth of that idea.
It is very simple and Verrrry Rewarding! I sincerely hope you will invest a few dollars for the materials, give away about ten and then take the remainder to the Flea Market and get your money back!
Hope to see you all at the foot of The Throne,
Dick and Verna Carmack
